Yam Yabasha ים יבשה
An extraordinary piano soirée
with the composer and pianist Itay Dvori
The Yam Yabasha programme is a musical adventure full of experiments and surprises; it was premiered in May 2015 at Galerie Gondwana in Berlin. It is the first concert in a series which incorporates graphic elements, primarily comics, and allows scope for improvisation.
Over the course of the evening, Itay Dvori interprets select rarities such as “Piano Sonata” by Erkki-Sven Tüür (Estonia) and “Four Keyboard Pieces” by Yehezkel Braun (Israel). In addition, every evening he dares to try out a spontaneous, freshly conceived improvisation on J.S. Bach and plays his own compositions (e.g. his piece “In-Tensions”) and improvisations.
In the second half of the concert, Itay Dvori projects extracts from comics and sets them to improvised music: he creates musical miniatures to extracts from Shaun Tan’s internationally successful wordless comic strip The Arrival, from Manuele Fior’s graphic novel The Interview and from the artist biography Pascin by the famous French illustrator Joann Sfar.
